BISKY BAT LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTS WITH BRAND NEW COLLECTIVE‘SMALL FACTORIES’ AT THE MILAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR 2007
Bisky Bat will be showcasing exciting new products by designer Sioban Imms at the Milan International Furniture Fair 2007 (18th – 23rd April). Bisky Bat is one quarter of the fabulous new collective Small Factories which is set to wow the crowd at the Salone Satellite. Sioban launched Bisky Bat in 2005 and was immediately snapped up for the ‘100% Design Young Professional Award’ for her beautiful coated glasses; this took her to 100% Design in Earls Court with Undu x 10 – one of the most talked about stands at the festival. Since then the product range has been the subject of much media attention and led to numerous interesting opportunities for the young designer.
New additions to the Bisky Bat product family include a Weather House and a fresh take on her stunning Seamless Shade. The pieces are typically layered with thought-provoking concepts but stay true to the appealing aesthetic of Sioban’s work.
The Milan Furniture Fair will be Sioban’s European debut exhibition, she states “When I visited Milan as a design student it made a big impression on me and I’m optimistic that Small Factories will inspire people in the same way.” She continues, “I develop much of my work using simple materials and processes out of a necessity to keep both cost and environmental impact down, but I believe restricted means can enabdesign to flourish; what I consider to be some of my most inventive work has been made within challenging confines.”
Sioban is interested in the relationship between the mass produced object
and the relentless consumer; she takes a sideways glance at the processes involved and the effects they have on the environment. Her work offers fresh, innovative and environmentally considered objects which achieve social relevance and technical efficiency whilst remaining simple.
