<p><strong>Fachhochschule Muenster / University of Applied Sciences Muenster</strong></p>
<p>The city of Muenster with its 275.000 inhabitants, famous for its architectural landmarks and cultural highlights, lies in the heart of Westphalia in North-Western Germany.</p>
<p>The Netherlands are just around the corner and very near to Muenster is also the “Ruhrgebiet”, one of the most industrialised regions of Europe.</p>
<p>The Fachhochschule Muenster is one of the biggest Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany (currently it ranks first as far as research and development activities are concerned).</p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_2_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="428" alt="Muenster_Satellite_07_2" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_2_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>Originally the department of design was a former “Kunstgewerbeschule”, an academy of fine arts. Nowadays the good mixture of traditional and progressive teachers contributes to creating a very unique and creative working atmosphere.</p>
<p>The integrative course of studies in Design offers a wide range of training in form and structure in a comprehensive study course with the following fields of work:</p>
<p>Exhibition and Presentation Design / Moving Picture Media / Corporate Identity / Print Graphics / Photography / Illustration / Information Design / Interactive Media-Interface / Communication Design / Product Design</p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_1_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="485" alt="Muenster_Satellite_07_1" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_1_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>It often occurs that projects are carried out further to requests from companies or other institutions.</p>
<p>At the end of the studies, in order to obtain their Bachelor- / Master degrees, students must demonstrate, by means of an independent piece of work, their competence in design and planning when implementing a design project.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_6_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="633" alt="Muenster_Satellite_07_6" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Muenster_Satellite_07_6_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p><b>„Antipasti“ at the Salone Satellite 2007 in Milan</b></p>
<p>The theme “Antipasti” (appetizers) was chosen to exhibit eight Design projects of our students.</p>
<p>All the projects were designed during the last year and have a common subject: dining.</p>
<p>The exposed projects include a video about the invention of the microwave oven, an illustrated book for children about a spoon, the corporate design for an Egyptian coffee house and an oil and vinegar bottle for a well-known Italian company.</p>
<p>The projects represent the wide range of possible design studies at the Design department such as Media Design, Product Design, Communication Design and Illustration Design. We hope that our projects will make you hungry for more and will render our Design department internationally more “appetizing”.</p>
<p><b><u>Student projects</u></b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Technique_of_cooking_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="336" alt="Technique_of_cooking" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Technique_of_cooking_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p><b>The technique of cooking (Graphic Design)</b></p>
<p>Elisabeth Schwarz</p>
<p>„The technique of cooking” is a masterpiece of information design. It gives a global view of the handicraft of cooking, the working processes and tools for a successful practice. Besides studying graphic design, the student worked as a professional cook in a vegetarian restaurant. </p>
<p><b>MISR Café (Graphic Design)</b></p>
<p>Kathrin Böhlke / Sina Chakoh / Selin Estroti / Sebastian Kösters</p>
<p>The redesign for the egyptian coffee company MISR Cafe was developed during a cross cultural CI course. The target of the course was to create a design concept that would be successful in Eastern and Western countries. The packaging and the other medium used are bilingual. The motto „flavour your friendship” defines the company`s values.</p>
<p><b>Incalculable (Media Design)</b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Incalculable_1.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="380" alt="Incalculable_1" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Incalculable_1_thumb.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>Christian Bobeth / Benny Zurek</p>
<p>„Incalculable“ is an animated exploration of numbers. It is presented as a step-by-step evolution into a world of darkness, leading to a subtle invasion of light and colour. The animation plays with counterpoints: noises versus music, black and white versus colours, mechanical versus organic.</p>
<p><b>The microwave oven (Media Design)</b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Microwave_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="306" alt="Microwave" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Microwave_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>Marco Jeuring</p>
<p>„The microwave oven” is a short animated fi lm that describes the functionality of a microwave oven. Not only the function is explained but also who invented it and under which coincidental circumstances the functions were discovered.</p>
<p><b>DISKUS – Oil and vinegar bottle (Product Design)</b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Diskus_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="336" alt="Diskus" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Diskus_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Diskus_1_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="316" alt="Diskus_1" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Diskus_1_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>Magnus Brock</p>
<p>Together with fi ve other well known European universities, our university was asked to participate in a competition organised by the Italian glass bottle manufacturer Vetrerie Bruni. The aim was to design new industrial glass bottles for oil / vinegar and for wine and liquor. The bottle „Diskus”, a project of our Design department is now in production.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.vetreriebruni.com/">www.vetreriebruni.com</a></p>
<p><b>Nux LED light (Product Design)</b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Lux_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="336" alt="Lux" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Lux_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>

<p>Stefanie Gogolla</p>
<p>NUX is waterproof and has a simple and longlife technology, with an ergonomic and easily recognisable shape. It is switched on by squeezing it and it is so small that it fits in any pocket to have it ready in any case. It lights up handbags to fi nd keys without rummaging, or the candy bowl during a movie to find favourite sweets in the dark.</p>
<p><b>GIRO Apple slicer (Product Design)</b></p>
<p><a href="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Giro_1_3.jpg" atomicselection="true" rel="lightbox"><img height="316" alt="Giro_1" src="http://www.productdesignproject.com/media/albums/UniversityofAppliedSciencesMuenster_F305/Giro_1_thumb_3.jpg" width="475" border="0"></a> </p>
<p>Jessica Battram / Christina Schäfer</p>
<p>„Giro” is a stainless steel apple slicer, which cuts the apple into spirals. It was awarded with the Red</p>
<p>Dot 2006 design award. „Giro” is currently produced and sold by the company Seibel Designpartner GmbH. <a href="http://www.mono.de/">www.mono.de</a></p>
<p><b>The pudding spoon (Illustration)</b></p>
<p>Christoph Mett</p>
<p>His spoon is missing. This is his beloved spoon, which has accompanied him for more than half of his life. And this happened on a very important day. Christoph Mett wrote and drew this story during a course organised together with our partner universities in Seoul and Tokyo. The theme of this course</p>
<p>was „families”. The swiss company „Atlantis” published this story in 2006.</p>

<p>The Deziphon is a synthesizer, which is able to generate tones from 100 -190 Hz. Its basic idea is the design concept of reduction. This thought is translated into the subject of music and reduces it to the mere subsistence.
<p>Music theory is based upon complex laws, which are being declared unnecessarily intricate in this context and are<b> </b>simplified as far as possible.
<p>The central idea thereby is the decimal system. The octave becomes a decade system, ten notes, which commence at 100 Hz, increasing in 10 Hz steps. Chords and harmonies are abolished. Every note lasts for exactly one second. Songs that are being preformed on the Deziphon are still recognizable. </p>
<div class="wlWriterSmartContent" id="53357c8b-5919-4e32-8c25-305d27c17a37:775c727e-904b-45a0-b749-a6371714b066" contenteditable="false" style="padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; float: none; padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px"><embed style="width:400px; height:325px;" id="VideoPlayback" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=4071380228151138" flashvars=""> </embed></div>
<p>White rectangles and black circles on the outside govern the symbolic appearance, to underline the concept of minimalism. The core is an “Arduino-Board”&nbsp;&nbsp;
