PLAYING WITH THE FAMILIAR, NICK FRASER EXHIBITS WITH
SMALL FACTORIES AT SALONE SATELLITE MILAN (STAND 11C),
APRIL 18-23 2007

Nick Fraser, one of four stirring new talents that make up Small Factories will be launching three new products at Milan’s International Furniture Fair this year. The essential elements of his designs are functionality and simplicity, combined with humour, variation and surprise. By manipulating recognisable shapes, forms and objects, his designs play with the familiar to create exciting products with new functions.

Nick’s new product range includes a novel take on the traditional wire frame lamp shade, a coat hanger mirror and a hall stand that challenges our perception of the industrial landscape.

‘I enjoy experimenting with our association of well-known objects and forms. There is always potential to re-work and breathe new life and function into items that have been in existence for some time.’

Wire Frame Lamp has been conceived through sculpting new forms from discarded lampshades. By the process of dismantling and reassembly, Nick has uncovered an original aesthetic from a tired and dated source.

Hall Stand (pictured) plays with the raw visual qualities of exposed pipe work found in most domestic environments. Made up of three functional products, this design offers an inventive and unique alternative to the conventional hall stand.
